WFTO Wednesday #102: Brace Yourselves

WFTOWednesdayCroppedLightBrace Yourselves

Hey folks,

It’s been quite a while since our last patch (October 3rd!) and the team has been hard at work over the last few months and the game has been growing strong. Today we’re happy to announce our next major release and provide you a short look at what to expect when it lands later this month.

Patch Preview: v0.6.0 “About Damn Time”

We’ll cut right to the chase: This patch is going to be pretty big. To start, hear us roar about one of the biggest features of this patch in a short video:

Yes, that’s right. This patch will contain the first version of the long-awaited Skirmish mode! The Skirmish AI is still in its early stages and our programmers have already overcome many, many obstacles, but they are unbowed, unbent, and unbroken in their pursuit of the perfect artificial Underlord.

Next up, we’re adding the first slice of the campaign into the game with early versions of levels 1, 2, and 3. “But you said a thousand times that there would be no campaign before launch?!” you may ask. You’re right, we did. However, with all the changes and gameplay improvements we’ve made to the game the old tutorial and campaign preview no longer functioned.

So, instead of continuing to maintain levels that were going to be scrapped, we decided it would be best to simply start using the final levels. Please note: The VO for these levels is placeholder right now, we’ll be recording Richard Ridings’ lines for these levels early next year.

On top of that, there’s a whole host of other features in the patch, including:

  • The addition of constructs (see WFTO Wednesday 100)
  • More gameplay tweaks and improvements than you can shake a stick at
  • Major updates to the Veins of Evil (see WFTO Wednesday 97)
  • Updates to terrain (see WFTO Wednesday 95)
  • Vastly improved unit AI
  • Early versions of several new aspects
  • An early version of saving & loading (see WFTO Wednesday 98)

We’re really excited about finally getting all this content to our players, and we’re sure you can’t wait to start destroying the AI in Skirmish and filling their dungeons with fire and blood!

Livestream This Friday! (December 19th @ 7PM UTC)

We’ll be hosting a livestream over on our Twitch channel this Friday to show off an early build of the patch and answer the many, many questions you probably have the upcoming content. Don’t miss it!

It’s A Bit Cold

Winter is coming, so we just wanted to give you a heads up that our WFTO Wednesday updates will be a bit on the skinny side over the next few weeks, but hopefully the patch will keep you occupied!

That’s it for this week! We do not sow. (Ok that’s enough now)

Until next time Underlord,

– WFTO Team

  2. I absolutely applaud your use of UTC with a link no less. I cannot tell you how annoying I find it when game devs give PST only.

  5. Very nice! But I was a bit shocked to hear “But you said a thousand times that there would be no campaign before launch?!” (never heard it :D)… actually, I’m ONLY interested in the campaign 😐

    • Ya I had never heard that before myself, and I’m overjoyed to hear there’s going to be some campaign maps, I’ve been opening the game every week looking if new maps were added since that’s my main focus, survival is fun for a little bit, and multiplayer could be fun, but I love the campaigns, and playing them over and over again.

  6. Gameplay looks better and better after each patch, I’m very excited about this game. GL guys 🙂

  7. It’s alive! IT’S ALIVE!!!! Thanks guys. Great work.
