WFTO Wednesday #68: Patch Testing (Again)!

WFTOWednesdayCroppedLightPatch Testing (Again)!

Hey folks,

Patch 0.4.0 is almost ready! If you absolutely cannot wait for it to be finalised, we’ve updated our patch testing branch with a new build.

Before we proceed, a warning: The patch is still very much a work in progress and several features (specifically the new UI) are quite unstable. Please check out the patch notes and known issues before playing!

With that in mind, here are the steps you need to take in order to access this early build:

  1. Open your Steam Library
  2. Right click on War for the Overworld Bedrock Beta and go to ‘Properties
  3. Go to the ‘Betas‘ tab and type in patchtesting
  4. Click ‘Check Code‘ (do not hit enter)
  5. Select ‘Patch Testing‘ from the dropdown box
  6. Restart your Steam client or go to the ‘Local Files‘ tab and click ‘Verify Integrity of Game Cache‘ to force the game to patch
  7. Don’t forget to switch back to ‘NONE – Opt out of all beta programs‘ (repeat steps 1-3) when you are done!

If you encounter any bugs or issues please post up a thread in our bug report forums (and make sure you specify that you are on the patch testing branch!). If this is your first time using the bug report forum, please familiarise yourself with the bug report guidelines.

We’ll be continuing to update this build over the next week with various fixes. Keep an eye on this week’s WFTO Wednesday forum thread and our Twitter page for more info whenever that happens.

v0.4.0 will be as large as our last three patches… combined! We’ve added over 20 new Aspects for the aspiring Underlord to unlock, giving you myriad new and insidious ways to wreck havoc upon your enemies.

To whet your appetite for the glory that is soon to come we’re going to highlight a few of the new Aspects below.

Spell: Shockwave
Conjure down a vicious wave of energy to knock back enemies in a large radius. Smash them against walls, throw them into tunnel filled with traps and instill a sense of dread in those with Anemophobia.

Units caught within the radius will be blasted back based both on how close to the centre of the spell they are as well as their weight (much to the dismay of the underweight Cultist).

Spell: Magical Meat
Do your minions get a bit grouchy after spending days marauding through the labyrinthian complex that you still insist is a good idea even though you haven’t seen most of your minions in a week? Does your Chunder look a bit deflated after a long stretch in the Foundry? Magical Meat, my friend, is the cure to most of your minions’ worries!

Summon forth a succulent swarm of pre-cooked, free-range micropiglets to give your minions a meal that is sure to satisfy their hunger all day.

Defence: Replacement Wall
Are you obsessive compulsive? Did the enemy just carve a hole through your perfectly placed rooms and ruin the feng shui of your dungeon? Fortunately for you the industrious little creatures that trudge around your Foundry have, after many long years of study, figured out how to build a replacement wall for those bits of earth that are accidentally or antagonistically excavated.

Place this blueprint anywhere that needs some bricking up and marvel as a perfect, fortified rectangle is born anew!

Potion: Work-A-Lot
While slapping has its benefits (good for the complexion, excellent at improving blood flow) it has the downside of occasionally making the recipient a bit cross. The Crackpot, tired of his bottles being smashed by wayward backhands devised this potion to increase the effectiveness of all nearby creatures – and to save him all the trouble of constantly ordering new glassware.

Drop this bottle of distilled clobbering and watch as your minions work themselves into a frothéd frenzy for a short period of time.

Potion: Quick Freeze
When an army comes crashing through your front door sometimes it’s best for both parties to cool off a bit and talk about their differences instead of resorting to violence. Or perhaps you just need a few moments to mercilessly mock them as they stand frozen stiff.

Toss down a Quick Freeze potion to freeze a 3-by-3 area of the map solid – preventing units from taking action and blocks from being mined for a short period of time.

All of the above aspects (and plenty more) are available for use now in the patch testing build!

We’ll be back next week with (hopefully) all the issues cleared up and the final release of the patch.

Until next time Underlord,

– WFTO Team
